Fried Chicken at the Colonade

We went to the Colonade on Cheshire Bridge Road last night. It was A+! We've been scouring Atlanta for fried chicken and this was next on the list. First they bring each person a plate of butter and some crackers. Weird combination but thats cool. I'm used to them tossing all the butter in a bowl and presenting it that way but as I thought about it the bread came. 3 kinds! Yeast rolls. Wheat yeast rolls and little corn muffins. YUM! We were definitely the youngest people there for the early bird special (which ends at 6:30). You save a buck and get a free drink and dessert. I did the chicken friend chicken and so did Sarah. It is a HUGE portion of juicy delicious chicken! The gravy was mild and delicious. Robyn got the real friend chicken and it was also good. crispy and juicy! The fluffy whipped potatoes were as i hoped and expected but the okra was a little cold. I still ate it all. I definitely think this is one of my all time favorites now! It totally beats out Mary Macs!

Soldered jewelry

I took this class last Sunday and look at everything I made! The class was a one day event at the Spruill Center for the Arts here in Atlanta. They have all sorts of classes and range for 2 months to one day. Great place! Anyway, i made these awesome items! The first was the set with the reddish-orange pieces. Not bad. Then I did the clear glass piece with the tiny paper scenes on each side. Very fun. The other ladies in class mostly made floral, pretty items but I went with funny. Next was the heart that is made with 2 pieces of glass soldered together. Then in a quick flash i made the last 2 and my tecnique got better and better.

East Atlanta Strut

So the Strut is next weekend. Its an awesome good time and my favorite craft fair of the year! It was a rough start when they told me i wasn't accepted even though I was sharing a booth with Jay. Anyway, common sense prevailed after several complaints and I was allowed to proceed. Of course this was a couple of weeks later so I didn't plan accordingly and I've fallen short of my goal on items to make. Oh well, it will be fun anyway.
So, I have decided there are too many sewing crafts and that may be why I was rejected. I needed a new item to set me apart. Sure, no one makes quilts at these things but then again, no one buys the quilts either. They'll pay 100 bucks for a painting that took a day to make but a quilt that too a lot of time and effort for 100? No way they say. So, my new item is slightly mass produced. I learned to make molds! I asked my friend to show me how and she's awesome so I knew she would be a great teacher. Now, how much should I sell these magnets for? I'm thinking 5 bucks for bugs, 7 for cows and 8 for the chickens. Discuss.

Owie!

So last night I celebrated Halloween by procrastinating crafts and sewing for fun filled Chicken times. I wrapped myself in my chicken costume once again and ran around East Atlanta to see all of the kids in their costumes. I accidently scared a few and intentionally chased a couple. It was all in good fun. Oh, and I entered a costume contest at Haas Bar but was robbed by the buttefly catcher family. I would have entered at the Graveyard as well, but I thought I would give other people a chance to win. Hahah, I actually just knew I couldn;t handle defeat twice in one evening with the BEST COSTUME EVER!
So, after running around frolicking as a chicken, I got home and instantly fell UP the stairs. I don;t drink so its not like I was wasted or anything. I was simply running up the stairs and Turkey got under the chickens feet. Turkey is pictured above. Her full name is Turkey Chicken-Bone Murderface III. She's cute for an asshole. Anyway, my knee is killing me right now.
For the three of you reading this, come to Youngblood tonight and buy krafts!

Halloween

Ah Halloween...its my favorite holiday! I love love love costumes and playing dress-up. This year i decided to be a chicken and it was sooo easy and comfortable! I'm sick of the slutty pirates, the sexy devils, the naughty whatevers...I go practical and funny.
You may ask yourself "How did she make that awesome costumes?" Well, I'll tell you.
You need certain supplies: feather boas, a white hoodie, a tutu, aluminum foil, masking tape and spray paint, and some tights (optional). I found my white hoodie at the thrift store for 3 bucks. I attached 2 large boas to it with safety pins. The first went down the arms and the second went around the hood and down the fronts. Next I attached 2 large boas and 2 skinny boas to the tutu. I would have just used large boas but Atlanta is out of white boas.
To make the mark I smashed some aluminum foil to my face, then i carefully removed it, cut out eyes and then coated it- front and back- with masking tape. This makes it sturdy. I tied some elastic to it, spray painted it white with an orange beak and then tapes a couple of stray feathers to it for good measure. While i was spray painting, I misted some tights with orange. They used to be a gross super-bright yellow and after my other tights blew out, I went with these. (Note: it is not advisable to spray paint tights while you are wearing them. I now have Linsey Lohan colored polka dots all over my lower half and I have to go to the gynecologist for my annual exam tomorrow - sorry TMI.) The costume took me a while to collect the pieces but really could have been assembled in a few easy hours in front of the TV.
To the left, I am showcasing 2 other awesome handmade costumes. The rainbow and the pot of gold (with their signature leprechaun) were awesome. So were the garden gnomes and their wizard. A++++ on all counts!

Happy Halloween!
